AMSTERDAM, 7 May 2020 – Spring and warm weather are here to stay for the coming months. Despite the fact that many aspects of our daily lives have changed drastically, responsible sun behaviour and timely detection of skin cancer remain more important than ever.
Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, and it is also the most preventable form. Getting sunburnt just once every two years can triple the risk of melanoma. The temperature is not the main factor that determines a sunburn, but rather the strength of the UV radiation that reaches the surface, which typically increases in warmer months.
Preventative methods and routine checks are fundamental to save lives. With the same mission in mind, SkinVision and UV-Fashions are teaming up to tackle skin cancer through prevention and awareness.
UV-Fashions is a company with a (twofold) mission, to prevent skin cancer and give everyone freedom in the sun. As the largest importer and supplier of UV clothing in Europe, UV-Fashions is fully committed to creating awareness about UV protection.
SkinVision enables people to check their skin from the comfort of home in order to help detect skin cancer. Through the use of artificial intelligence, the smartphone application aims to empower individuals to check for early signs of skin cancer, allowing them to see a doctor in time if a skin spot has been assessed as high risk by the algorithm.
Jan Willem van der Sterreinserted, the founder of UV-Fashions and JUJA, said, “Our mission is to prevent skin cancer and to provide anyone with a medical skin problem freedom in the sun.”
In the coming months, SkinVision and UV-Fashion have activities planned to educate their audiences about the importance of sun safety. The partnership was launched to create an impact on their customers in the summer months when there will be an increase in sun exposure.
Erik de Heus, CEO of SkinVision commented, “We are happy to partner with UV-Fashions to support our customers not only with the early identification of skin cancer but also helping them to stay safe in the sun. Everybody has this great desire to be out when the weather is nice, and with the right clothes, this can be done while minimizing the negative impact the sun has on the skin. This kind of prevention and protection will be very common in the near future. The rapidly growing rates of skin cancer around the world will support this change.”
