Beauty bloggers guide to summer skin health

Sunscreen, sunscreen, more sunscreen

Renee from Blog for Beauty has only one word for you: “Sunscreen! Sunscreen is vital every day, in my opinion, but especially throughout the hot summer months. Don’t leave home without it. I recommend an SPF40 for your face, and SPF30 for the body.”

Yes, says Carleen from Beauty and Fashion Tech. “Use double-duty cosmetic products to maximize sun protection. For example, in addition to regularly applying sunscreen, use a moisturizer with sunscreen and/or a foundation with sunscreen. This way, you help ensure that you are always protected. You can even use powder sunscreen as your finishing powder.”

“In the summer, it is important for both men and women to wear sunscreen to protect their skin”, adds Kathryn from KTBEAUTYBRANDS. “Your skin is sensitive and being out in the sun can cause damage to your beautiful skin. So ladies, if you’re going out in the sun, try to wear either a moisturizer or foundation with SPF.

One of my favorites at the moment is the FitMe Dewy + Smooth. Now, some people will say it’s okay to skip out on sunscreen. Allow me to give you three reasons why it’s not.

  • 1-  In 30 years from now, your skin and someone who didn’t wear sunscreen’s skin is going to look a lot different.
  • 2-  Using sunscreen helps with protecting the premature aging and wrinkles on the skin.
  • 3-  The sun’s UV rays are known to cause skin cancer; so, make sure to apply sunscreen to protect yourself.

So make sure you keep in mind this summer while your laying on a tropical beach somewhere – It takes 20 seconds to apply sunscreen so in 20 years you have beautiful skin!”

How it affects skin cancer rates

Aprill from Hey Aprill stresses the sunscreen usage as the sun is a big cause of skin cancer. “According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 86 percent of melanomas are associated with exposure to UV radiation from the sun. This means most of all skin cancer cases could be prevented, simply by wear SPF of 15 or greater. Always use a broad spectrum SPF to protect against UVA and UVB rays and use even when you don’t see the sun! “

Hydration & vitamins

“This goes for both men and women. Stay hydrated with summer fruits and veggies! Besides drinking plenty of water, nourish the skin (and your whole body) by eating high-in-water foods like berries, leafy greens, cucumber, and watermelon – which is 91% water!”, says Chrysa from Jinxy Beauty.

Patti from A Cruelty-Free Me agrees. “My number one summer skin tip is to stay hydrated. In the heat, sun, and ocean this is especially important. But keeping hydrated is vital for cell turnover and helps when skin cells are severely dehydrated and sunburned. “

Getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles

“Another wonderful tip for summer skin health is helping to get rid of hyperpigmentation (photoaging) and fine lines and wrinkles. This can be done with just a few items”, explains Marie from I Am The Makeup Junkie.

“Two things I really like are Vitamin C and Retinol. A good Vitamin C serum with L Ascorbic Acid has the strongest Vitamin C acid to help with melasma (due to pregnancy), pigmentation issues and age spots.

Using it regularly will help to lighten up the skin on the face a good amount. Give your face at least a month or two to get great results.

As for fine lines and wrinkles, a retinol product is most useful. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A. I would look for a serum or 2% strength product. Not only do these products give you the results that I have mentioned above but they also smooth out the complexion, even out the skin tone, and remove any bumps on the skin. Skin ends up looking amazing.”
